Why the answer depends on the order and account

1688 primarily serves China's domestic wholesale market, but official app listings now describe logistics functions for global buyers. The option visible to one account does not establish global country or product coverage.

Check the exact order, app or website screen, destination, seller and cargo. A supplier saying "we can ship" may mean domestic delivery to a China warehouse, express export, a separate freight quote or a third-party DDP service. Ask for the route and scope in writing.

The 1688 domestic delivery model

Many 1688 listings quote product cost plus delivery to an address in mainland China. The seller may send cartons by domestic courier or truck to a warehouse selected by the buyer, agent or forwarder.

Domestic freight can vary by supplier city, carton count, weight, volume and delivery region. Confirm whether it is included in checkout, collected separately or recalculated after packing. For a small test shipment, include the sample and handling costs described in 1688 MOQ and Sample Orders.

Current cross-border and international-facing logistics features

Current official app listings describe integrated logistics or global-buyer services. Treat that as evidence that cross-border functions exist, not as a promise that every account, country, product or seller is eligible.

Where an option appears, record the named service, destination, delivery scope, estimated charge, customs statement, prohibited-goods rules and provider terms. Confirm whether the order remains visible inside the platform and who handles loss, rejection and refund.

Some suppliers use a courier or forwarder. Confirm the contracting provider, Incoterm and destination charges.

Platform-supported logistics where available

Check destination and cargo eligibility in the live account. A supplier's separate freight link is not platform logistics unless the order interface shows that relationship.

An agent can order, receive and consolidate. Confirm whether inspection, returns and export are separate.

Freight-forwarder warehouse

A forwarder may receive and ship goods but does not necessarily purchase, negotiate or inspect.

Confirm receiving records, free storage, repacking, loss responsibility and the export forwarder.

China domestic shipping, consolidation and repacking

Ask every supplier for carton count, dimensions, gross weight, dispatch city and domestic delivery cost. Give the correct warehouse recipient code so cartons can be matched to the order.

Consolidation can reduce the international shipment count, but it adds receiving, storage, handling and documentation work. Repacking can change dimensions, weight, labels and damage risk. Require an updated packing list before the final freight quote.

The complete international-shipping cost flow

Each stage can have a separate provider and invoice. A low China domestic shipping amount says nothing about export, duty or final delivery. Ask for fixed included costs, estimated costs and conditional costs as separate lines.

Export customs and international freight methods

Identify who prepares the invoice, packing list, export declaration and product documents.

Sea freight

For larger, less urgent cargo; confirm LCL/FCL and origin, destination and delivery charges.

Air freight

Faster, but chargeable weight and restrictions matter.

Express courier

Useful for accepted samples and small cartons; confirm duty, tax and remote-area fees.

Rail freight

Available on selected China-Europe routes; scope depends on provider and destination.

DDP, import customs and importer-of-record questions

A provider may offer DDP or door delivery, but the label alone does not explain who is legally named for import, how goods are declared or which charges are included. Ask who handles export clearance, import declaration, duty, tax, customs queries and final delivery.

Duty, VAT/GST and final delivery

Import duty, VAT/GST, customs brokerage, disbursement, terminal, storage and final-delivery fees depend on destination rules and the service purchased. Confirm whether the quote is port or airport only, business-address delivery, residential delivery or an appointment service.

For the United States, United Kingdom or another destination, check current customs-authority and broker requirements for the actual importer. Never apply one country's threshold or tax rule to another destination.

Shipping 1688 orders to Amazon FBA

A forwarder can receive 1688 cargo and deliver to Amazon FBA when the route, importer arrangement and receiving requirements are supported. Provide the warehouse address or code, shipment reference, carton labels, pallet requirements and appointment rules.

FBA delivery does not make Amazon the importer and does not prove the product is compliant. Confirm customs, duty, tax, labeling, packaging, product safety and rejected-delivery handling separately.

Restricted goods, sensitive cargo and product compliance

Declare batteries, liquids, powders, magnets, branded goods, chemicals, food-contact products and regulated devices before quoting. A route that accepts ordinary textiles may reject cartons containing batteries or liquid.

Transport acceptance is not destination-market approval. Confirm testing, labeling, intellectual-property, customs and regulatory requirements before mass production. Never ask a provider to use a false description or value.

Returns and rejected goods

Ask what happens if a warehouse rejects cargo, export fails, customs stops it or delivery is refused. Confirm storage, return, disposal and carrier-claim responsibility.

Resolve visible product and packing problems in China; inspection can cost less than an international return.

7. Who is the importer of record or equivalent destination party?
8. Are duties, taxes, customs brokerage and final delivery included?
9. Are batteries, liquids, powders, magnets or branded goods accepted?
10. What happens if the product is rejected, cannot be exported or cannot be delivered?

Direct-shipping example

A supplier offers express shipping for two sample cartons. The buyer confirms the named courier, product description, chargeable weight, destination, duty and tax treatment, and whether the quote includes pickup and final delivery. The order and courier reference are saved.

This can be efficient for samples, but the buyer still checks restrictions and import requirements. The arrangement should not be described as universal 1688 international shipping.

Warehouse-consolidation example

A buyer orders from three 1688 sellers. Each seller delivers domestically to a Ningbo warehouse using the buyer's receiving code. The warehouse records cartons, combines cargo, updates the packing list and hands the shipment to a forwarder.
